A Girl!!!!

My friend, Katie, had a little girl last night! Her name is Sarah Anne and she is absolutely beautiful! She weighed 6 lbs. 7.6 oz which is exactly what Ian weighed! Both she and Katie are doing great. They should be able to come home tomorrow.

I was just sure that Katie was going to have another boy. I am so happy that I was wrong! Even Katie was certain it was going to be a boy. So certain that when her husband said it was a girl, she really didn't believe him!

Congrats and much love to Ryan, Katie and Jake!!!!

Shots Stink

I concluded that shots stink years ago, but I am pretty sure that Ian agrees with me now. He had his 2 month shots yesterday and it was not pretty. Everyone told me that it would be harder on me than it would be on him. I agree it was horrible, but I think his portion of it stunk too.

The day started off pretty calm. Ian is a very happy baby in the morning. When I go to get him in the morning, he just beams at me. I always greet him with "Good Morning Sunshine". It completely fits. He is a ray of sunshine every morning. I, on the other hand, am not a morning person. So, people that are amaze me to no end.

Anyway, we headed off to see the Dr for our 11:45 appointment. When we got there, the nurse told us they were running behind. Great! I didn't want to be there because I knew what was coming. And besides, Ian was awake and getting fussy.

So, we waited and waited. We were the last ones called in before the office closed for lunch. The nurse weighed and measured him. (He weighed 10.9 lbs and is now 22.5 inches tall!) Then, she took us to an exam room to wait for Dr. Matt. Well, no one told Dr. Matt that he had one more patient so we ended up waiting a long time in the exam room. This was a good thing for Dr. Matt, because Ian filled his diaper with a most horrific stench and I was able to get it changed before Dr. Matt entered the room. (Why does this child insist on trapping me in small places that I can't escape from when he poops?!?!)

Dr. Matt answered all my questions and examined Ian from top to bottom. Everything check out just fine. According to Dr. Matt, Ian's hearing and sight are wonderful. Further, he is very bonded to me and is right on track develomentally. I knew all that, but you still worry and it's good to hear nonetheless.

Next the nurse came in with the shots. My poor baby had 3 shots and had to drink one other one. Here comes the hard part...I had to hold him down while they gave him the shots! About half way through the first injection, he screamed like we were killing him. That's all it took, I started to cry. It is very difficult to see your child in that much pain and even more so when you have to hold him down for it.

But, the drama wasn't over. I carried him out to the car to put him in his car seat. When I put him down, there was blood on my arm! Upon a quick exam, we determined that he bled through the bandaid and his clothes onto my arm. So, I quickly carried him back in and they escorted us straight to the back. Fortunately, he had already stopped bleeding and we were able to clean him up and be on our way in a few minutes. I really didn't need to see that blood! The sight of blood doesn't bother me, I just really didn't need that extra drama. I got in the car, shed a couple of tears and decided it was time to leave and break down in the privacy of my own home. Fortunately for Ian, he wore himself out screaming and was able to sleep through my breakdown! Poor Whiskey just followed me around until I calmed down.

The rest of the day was spent taking turns holding a cranky child. Thankfully, I had given him a pre-emptive dose of tylenol. I think it would have been worse without it. Tylenol definitely became our friend for the rest of the day and night.

This morning, Ian is back to being himself. Bright and cheerfully greeting a new day. It is amazing how easily kids bounce back. It's too bad, we adults can't do it that easily. We get to go through this again in October. I can hardly wait....

Thank You Sue

My mom's friend, Sue, sent us a gift card to Babies-R-Us for Ian. I couldn't make up my mind what to spend the money on until my trip to the store the other day when I found this great toy. He can bounce and spin around. It plays music and the toys spin, wobble, dangle and rattle. Ian already loves playing in it. Again, thank you Sue. I am sure that this will quickly become one of his favorite toys and mine!

to prop him in there with a couple of towels.)

Some More Pictures

This is my baby! Back off!!

Mark, Ian and Whiskey resting on our bed.

Whiskey is such a good dog. Ian can do anything to him

and he doesn't care.

Ian is bored with me taking his picture. But, he has

a great furry pillow to rest against.

I finally caught a picture of the smile. Isn't it great!!?
